Tofo, situated in the Inhambane Province, is a stunning eight kilometre stretch of sandy beach located on the southern coast of Mozambique in the Indian Ocean.
Tofo has beautiful grassy dunes, rolling surf, year round sunshine and great places to stay, eat and play. There is plenty to do in Tofo, you can sit back and enjoy and easy day relaxing on the beach, or spend your time there scuba diving (some of the best diving in the world), surfing the waves in Tofinho or in the Bay, horseriding the trails through the dunes and villages or deep sea fishing.
There are great restaurants where you can relax, sipping away and sampling local prawns and other delicious seafood. You could also take a trip into Inhambane, historic local town and the second oldest town in Mozambique to enjoy the local market or dhow ride in the harbour.
There are two beaches in the area, Tofo Beach, which is the main beach, and Tofinho (or little Tofo) which is a bit quieter. Tofo beach is a great swimming beach and also has a boat launch area for the diving and fishing charters. It has bars and restaurants, a small market and shops, and you can buy fish and crafts at the beachfront.
There is a municipal bus that leaves the market throughout the day almost on the hour to Inhambane. There are also many chappas (taxis) that also leave from the market. Once in Inhambane you can also get around on tuk-tuk.
