Bilene Mozambique

A beautiful destination only 180km North of Maputo. Bilene sits on the edge of a beautiful salt water lagoon which extends 27kms parallel to the warm Indian ocean. Bilene lagoon caters for a variety of exciting activites and its calm conditions make bathing safe for everyone.

Scuba Diving and deep sea fishing is another major attraction off the shores of Bilene.

All in all, Bilene boasts the best of both worlds for the visitor - a holiday destination thats getting more popular each year.

The very popular village of Bilene (Praia do Bilene) is approximately a 1 and a half hours drive from Maputo (+/- 180km) and is not too far from Xai Xai.

Whats unique about Bilene is that it sits on the edge of a salt water lagoon, called Sao Martinho that runs roughly 27km parallel to the Indian Ocean. Although the lagoon has a mouth that is always kept open for boat trips, a huge sandbar is what seperates the lagoon and Ocean.

The lagoon's calm waters make it safe for swimming and ideal for a variety of watersports, such as Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, wake boading, Jet Skiing, kayaking and much more.
A 4x4 is required to tackle sandbanks that lead to ocean facing beaches.

Bilene village also offers a few restaurants, a bakery, cafe, curio shops and markets that will provide the basic needs for visitors. Beach bars have a great vibe and get festive on the weekend with good music and Mozambican drinks to enjoy.

Petrol and Diesel are both Available in Bilene, although if you are on a budget, then it is advised to fill up your fuel tanks at either Maputo or Xai Xai if possible! As it is more expensive to do so in Bilene.
