Welcome to the quiet little village of Chidenguele - 70km north of Xai Xai. To the locals Chidenguele means "the Highest Point" in the chope launguage.

As you travel along the EN1 surrounded by beautiful cocnut palm trees, you will be surprised to find quite a modern structure amongst the palms - a dirt road which leads to a fancy white, stained-glass Cathlic Church.

Then just down the road you will finally see a turn off to your right, a single road, going through Chidenguele's tiny village - and you will know when you have arrived to to Chidenguele, as the locals are inviting, very friendly and you cannot miss the large name of Chidenguele, written with white stones on the hill just beyond an open soccer field.
Here you can stop off to buy fresh produce from the local markets - fruit, vegetable, pau (famous portugese type rolls) as well as beer.

Once you have finished getting some of the local supplies ... take another right turn down a dirt road that will lead you on for another scenic 5kms. Along the way you will pass by a magnificent fresh water lake called Lake Nhambavale... and by now you will undoubtedly get the feeling of a great holiday experience thats ahead of you. The area around Chidenguele is full of spectacular inland lakes, but the lake Nhambavale is the largest, been an impressive 23kms long. Not only are the waters clear and warm but is also great for kayaking, windsurfing, bird watching and for the person who just simply wants to relax and enjoy the tranquil waters and surrounding beauty!

Travel further down and soon you will see the beautiful blue ocean & pristine beaches emerge, waiting for you to unpack your bags and explore! There are many activities and things to do in Chidenguele.

You can explore the many large rock pools and deep gullies that exist close to shore and witness stunning marine life the Indian ocean has to offer.
If you want to go spend a sundowner with your friends or family ... head off South towards the still active - Bao Paz Lighthouse. You can either get to this destination by vehicle or by foot ... but why not be be more adventurous and take a walk there ... in which you will pass 3 freshwater lakes. Here you can sit and relax on top of a massive high dune which gives you a spectacular 360 degree view ... or go climb to the top of the lighthouse!!! - Your choice ;-)!
Talking about walking on foot ... you can also take some scenic walks / hikes inland around beautiful still freshwater lakes that are surrounded by lush flora ... and if you enjoy birdwatching, don't forget to bring your bincoluars and camera.
Then you can go excerise your legs some more and witness the magnificent shipwreck on beach near the "kings Pools".

All in all Chidenguele is a perfect destination for holiday makers who want the explore another one of Mozambiques stunning coastlines.

The town is quite a bit above sea level and has an absolutely spectacular view of 2 massive lagoons (Lake Quissico and Lake Munhanze) and the beautiful blue ocean which completes the horizon - makes for a very rewarding site indeed! Make sure you have your camera to capture this moment!
