Nampula, Mozambique
Nampula is 447 miles from Beira and 180km from Ilha de Mozambique, and has been a major trade / business centre for the Northern parts of Mozambique.
Although Nampula is not a major tourist destination (because of transport issues), the area and landscape up here is very beautiful and unique to Mozambique. Amongst the rolling hills and high mountains, Large Volcanic rocks (iselbergs) protrude from the earths surface, creating a bizzare, yet fascanating landscape.
The City is quite modern for Mozambique standards. Facilities and suppliers include: Car dealerships, Airport (domestic flights only but will soon be an international airport), soccer stadium, banks, ATM's, tennis clubs, upmarket Accommodation, supermarkets, stores, local markets, restaurants, coffee shops, pharmacy's, internet cafes, clothing shops and more.
If you are in need of renting a car ... then head off to 'Moti-Rent-A-Car'.
Nampula's most popular city attraction is the glorious cathedral (Cathedral de Nosa Senhora da Conceicao). The cathedral is large and towers above most buildings - making is very easy to find. Be sure to take a look while you are there.
