With a total area of 103,127 km2, the Zambezia Province has the highest population in Mozambique at 3,794,509 (2006). The Province's capital, Quelimane is the 4th largest city in Mozambique and is an important trade centre for Mozambique, exporting products such as sisal, tea, palm products, Fish (Shrimp and Prawns in particular). The Zambezia Province has the perfect inland Alpine climate for Tea plantations and Gurue is known to be the 'Home' of tea plantations. In fact before Mozambique's civil war, Gurue had the largest and most tea plantations in the Southern hemisphere!

Zambezia Province host the 2nd highest mountain in Mozambique, Mount Namuli (2419m above sea level) Mount Mabu and Gili Reserve.
