Bela Vista Mozambique

Learn more about the coastal resort of Bela Vista in Mozambique

Bela Vista is a quaint riverside village ideally located en-route to popular holiday destinations of Maputo, Ponta do Ouro, Santa Maria, Inhaca Island and is only 27km from the entrance to Maputo Elephant Reserve.

Travellers on a tight budget could be wise to book accommodation in Bela Vista where day trips to said holiday destinations above can all be explored throughout your holiday depending how long you stay. Reaching Bela Vista does not require a 4x4 from South African borders (Kosi Bay / Ponta do Ouro & Komatipoort / Namaacha borders) however if you are planning to travel beyond, then certain destinations will require a 4x4.

Most basic shopping amenities can be purchased in Bela Vista and there is a Puma fuel station just outside the village along the N200 (Boane Road) where fuel, supplies and freshly baked bread can be purchased at the ShopExpress. There are also restroom facilities at the fuel station.

27km from Bela Vista is the popular Maputo Elephant Reserve (officially known as "Maputo Special Reserve" or in Portuguese "Reserva Especial de Maputo"). The reserve can only be traversed with a 4x4 and is part of the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area - a project joining areas in countries of Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland. Although not a "Big 5" game reserve, elephants, giraffe, hippos, zebra, crocodiles, antelope, flamingos and a wide variety of birds can be spotted in this unspoilt reserve, whilst efforts to restock wildlife is an ongoing process.

The Maputo Elephant Reserve gates closes half an hour before sunset and opens at sunrise so plan your journey accordingly (note: you have to travel through the reserve to reach Santa Maria). The reserve's entrance fee is approximately MZN 900 per person and per vehicle. *Note - The entrance fee can change!
